On the 20Th October 2022, Greenquest solutions under their holding SPV, GQS Mozambique limitada ( previously referred to as El Sol limitada 2016) received approval from Carlos Joaquim Zacarias the Ministry of Energy to develop 200MW of utility scale solar farms across the country. Greenquest Solutions will start a rollout program across various locations already earmarked for a series of 30 MW projects around the country. Pilot project of 30MW will start in the Chokwe region of Gaza district.
Project manager Vasu Devan is currently managing the local teams and various stake holders EDM and local consultants in getting the permitting approved to “ready to build” so that PPA discussions can begin.
CEO Bobby Wahi commented that “We hope to have at least 6/7 projects fully permitted ready to build by the close of 2023 with construction to follow thereafter”. Additionally there are talks to expand the network in order to export electricity through EDM to neighbouring countries to meet international demand.
The remote regions of the country are basically powered by isolated generator systems. Despite having relatively low cost, these systems are not the best solution for remote areas as they require a regular maintenance program that is rarely executed, leading to increased number of failures of the generators, which is reflected in a high rate of blackouts. This situation is exacerbated due to increased fuel costs, especially in distant areas with hefty transportation costs, which inflates the cost of electricity even more.
Greenquest solutions will go someway to address these problems by its 200MW pipeline in the country
